Our testimony on Open Innovation at the University of Siena
The University of Siena invited us to talk about our experience with the Open Innovation approach, to demonstrate how in corporate research it is important to have a strategy that makes use of external collaborations.
We were recently guests of the Department of Business and Legal Studies-DISAG of the University of Siena, which among other things deals with doing research on the development of innovative and original models aimed at the creation of a new entrepreneurship.
Within the International Management course, taught by Prof. Lorenzo Zanni, our R&D Manager Lucio Machetti explained our approach to Open Innovation, which involves Terranova's collaboration with external realities to study innovation projects together and give the most innovative start-ups the opportunity to work with a structured company. We then spoke in detail about our model, which has been fundamental in our growth path; fostering local relationships by connecting with global partners.
Prof. Lorenzo Zanni thanked Lucio Machetti for sharing with students the experience of a company in our field that is strongly committed to managing relevant challenges on the front of technological innovation and internationalization.
In particular, the Open Innovation model adopted by Terranova testifies that one can also develop one's business through growth strategies by external lines and by connecting local relationship networks with learning processes with global partners. On these issues, there are important margins for collaboration between our university and businesses that concern teaching (new content), research (new lines of research), and the third mission (new models of technology transfer and placement). The future challenge will therefore be to strengthen this partnership, also in collaboration with other players in the area (such as the SAIHUB Foundation), identifying projects of common interest capable of generating concrete spin-offs in terms of impact on our economic and social fabric.
We found the students' enthusiasm and engagement truly inspiring, underlying the importance of a global mindset in today's business landscape. We thank Prof. Zanni for the invitation and will look forward to future exchanges and further discussions.
