Terranova funds a doctoral fellowship aimed at leak detection in water networks

With the aim of supporting research aimed at innovation, we have recently activated a PhD grant with the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Florence, to study innovative techniques related to leak detection in water networks.

These are a critical problem affecting the efficiency and sustainability of water distribution systems, and it is well known that improving leak detection and repair, along with upgrading infrastructure, is essential to ensure more efficient and sustainable water distribution.

We have activated a doctoral fellowship in collaboration with the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Florence, with the aim of studying and developing innovative techniques for the detection of leaks in water networks. These represent a critical problem that negatively affects the efficiency and sustainability of water distribution systems, causing significant wastage and supply problems for the population. Reducing water losses not only contributes to the conservation of this precious resource, but also optimizes operating costs and improves the quality of service provided to citizens.

To address this complex challenge, Kimiya Noorali led by Prof. Simone Marinai, will base her research project on advanced methods of monitoring and leakage detection, including the use of smart sensors and data analysis techniques based on artificial intelligence. The goal is to create a more resilient and sustainable water network management model, capable of detecting leaks early and implementing targeted and efficient repair interventions. It will also be crucial to consider the economic and environmental aspect of the proposed solutions, to ensure that they are viable and sustainable in the long run.

We believe that this project can have a significant impact not only locally, but also on a global scale, offering solutions that are applicable to different urban and rural realities. Technological innovation and scientific research are key tools for improving water resource management and contributing to environmental sustainability. We are excited to be able to contribute through this research initiative.
